An experienced VCE Accounting, Business, English tutor

Hi I'm Roopa and I love to use both sides of my brain! I have always enjoyed learning new things and always excelled at School! I am also creative and am an amateur artist and also a fashion stylist.

So what did I study?
I graduated in 2004 (Bachelor of Commerce) in India. Fast forward to 2006, I moved to Australia to study and completed a Master's degree majoring in Accounting and Financial Management in 2006. During my Masters degree at La Trobe University, I received Dean's commendation for two consecutive semesters for achieving and aggregate of over 80% in all subjects. I then went ahead and became a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).

How did I put my Education to use?
For the past 20 years, I've worn many hats such as a Forensic Accountant, a Project Manager, a Banker, a Tutor, a Personal Stylist, a Confidence & Resilience Coach and also as a Linguistic, Soft Skills and Behavioural Trainer. In addition, I am a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience on the importance of building resilience within leaders and their teams, and establishing a corporate presence.

What do I like to do when I'm not doing any of the above?
Travel (visited 41 countries and counting), Read autobiographies, Cook, Beach Walks, Listen to podcasts, Exercise, Catch up with Friends and Family, Learn a new skill (currently learning pottery)

Why I love teaching?
I come from a family of academics and education has always been a huge part of all our lives. I used to teach younger students whilst I was in year 11 and really enjoyed sharing knowledge. What started as a hobby, soon became a passion and something I have loved doing over the years. I have had the opportunity tutor both Masters and Bachelors students at La Trobe University (2006 - 2008) and alongside continued private tutoring (Year 8 and above) part time alongside my full time work.

Each student has their own way of learning and understanding and absorbing knowledge. I ensure I gather as much knowledge about this, the students' pain points, their goals and aspirations and then prepare for each session in a way that it's customised to address exactly what each individual student requires to excel and grow.

I believe learning doesn't need to be dry and boring, it can easily be made fun and enjoyable once the student finds it relatable and engaging I endeavour to include examples, exercises and questions that will pique a students interest and engage them with the subject and the topic they may be learning.

In my experience, curiosity and confidence go hand in hand. I encourage students to be curious and enable them in building the confidence to ask questions, learn from their areas of improvement and strive for success. There's no better reward than to see the look of joy on a young adult's face when they understand, learn and perform well and succeed with flying colours.
