VCE English: 48
Hi! I'm Helena, and when my nose isn’t buried in a book, you can find me biking outdoors, with a paintbrush in hand, playing soccer or volleyball, or in a library looking for more books.
Year 12 can be an understandably daunting time. English, in particular, can be a source of great stress, since it’s a subject you simply cannot improve in by practising mindlessly over and over again. It’s not just a matter of how hard you work, but working hard on the right things.
As someone who has completed an equal number of humanities and STEM subjects, I understand how humanities and STEM-orientated students learn best and can easily adapt to teach content in a digestible way. As an avid reader, I understand the nuances of words and texts, and have been exposed to a wide range of texts and their concepts.
In addition to juggling the trials of Year 12, I was also elected as a House Captain and have a thorough understanding of its rewards and the act of trying to find time to do everything, including, most importantly, taking care of yourself before others. For example - hopefully this never happens - if you’re on fire, and your friend is on fire, you have to put your fire out first before you can help your friend, or it’ll consume you both.
On that positive note, my additional services in fighting metaphorical fires come free of charge, as does my commitment to make sure you make it out of Year 12 proud of what you have achieved and not broken, just a little bent.
Helena graduated in 2018 as a House Captain and Prefect of Haileybury Girls College. Now studying the Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne, she hopes to become a biomedical engineer or a specialist doctor. Notably, Helena is also an alumnus of the National Youth Science Forum and the University of Michigan Maths and Science Scholars program and is eager to assists students if they choose to apply to similar programs.
