Gus Nguyen
Hi! My name is Gus and I graduated from Melbourne High School in 2020. I am studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne with the hopes of becoming a teacher or journalist in the future.
VCE is a big journey and it can seem extremely daunting at first. I was in the same boat as you, contending with multiple writing-heavy Humanities subjects, making a media film and constantly wondering how I would be able to manage it all. In between remote learning in 2020 and the various extracurriculars that I took part in during VCE, I had to figure out ways to manage my time to make sure I didn’t burn out.
To that end, I was able to develop a structured and efficient approach to studying that allowed me to condense the amount of material I had to learn. As a tutor, I aim to teach you the tips and tricks I learnt, building your confidence in the content and developing effective study habits to help you get the best results. I will also provide a variety of resources and exam techniques to help bolster your knowledge and model different approaches to questions. Above all else, I want to make sure that you enjoy what you are learning!
Of course, no VCE journey is complete without the stuff that you do outside of hitting the books. I am an avid musician, having played bass guitar as part of multiple school ensembles and within the Victorian State Schools Spectacular orchestra. I’m constantly on the lookout for new music and currently enjoy listening to artists such as Bruno Mars and Cory Wong. I also enjoy debating and being in nature; lockdown has fostered a stronger love of bike rides and walks with my dog.
I am flexible and am available to do 1-on-1 tutoring or tutoring in small groups of 2-3. Although I’m located in the Western suburbs, I am happy to conduct classes online and/or at UniMelb or the State Library.
Gus participated in numerous leadership roles during his time at Melbourne High School, working as the Student Music Executive, the Form Captain and a member of the Student Representative Council. Balancing this responsibility with effective study habits, he graduated in 2020 with an ATAR of 99.15. Currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, Gus hopes to become a teacher in the future, aiding his community and fostering a deep love of learning in future generations.
